Weekend Recap

On Friday I went to a Zumba class at the gym on base and oh man was it fun! I am not too coordinated when it comes to dance steps, but I did better than I expected....guess all that dancing at O-Ku with Heather before I left Charleston paid off! Ha! I loved the music the instructor played because it was more hip hop stuff than latin/salsa. I mean, who doesn't want to start dancing when they hear Flo-Rida?! :-) I can't wait for my next Zumba class!

Saturday morning Andrew and I decided to take a trip to Ikei Island. It's an island you can get to by car and we heard they had a nice beach there as well as good snorkeling. The drive to Ikei Island was beautiful. I couldn't get over some of the views. I can't get over how blue and clear the water is here. The beach was off the beaten path and kind of secluded and we were definitely one of few Americans there. The beach itself was beautiful.
We did some snorkeling, ate a picnic lunch, and did some relaxing. It looked like a storm was heading our way, so we packed up and called it a day. On our way out, the nice people that worked at the beach gave us an icy treat! Strawberry shaved ice!
As we were leaving the island we would just go down a random street or take a turn off the main road to see what we could find. We stopped at what we think was some sort of salt museum, but we aren't exactly sure! haha. We didn't go inside, but we walked up this path which took us up on a cliff almost and this is the view we saw!
That picture gives you an idea of how clear the water is here....pretty awesome, huh?! Book your tickets now to come visit please :-)

Sunday we tried out a church on the island and really liked it. Afterwards we had sushi for lunch. All of the sushi here is amazing and I just can't get enough of it! The one thing I am having to get used to is eating everything with chopsticks! Back in the U.S. I would eat sushi with a fork and knife because the sushi is so big to put the whole thing in your mouth at once....here, that's not an option, so I've just had to suck it up and learn how to cram the whole piece of sushi in my mouth and start chewing! Another thing I can't do very well yet is eat rice with chopsticks....if you've never attempted it, I challenge you to try it. It is impossible for me to get more that 3 grains of rice on my chopsticks at once! ha. But trust me, I will be a professional with chopsticks by the time I leave here! Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

  1. Lauren Conrad actually has something on her blog about sushi etiquette that I read awhile back and was laughing at it because I ate mine with a fork and knife too...but apparently not eating your piece of sushi all in one bite is considered rude! Haha- you should google that article and try to find it...I think there may have even been chopstick tips!
